Downloadable Instagram account archive with a follower list and security lock

If you want to download your Instagram followers list, use the account's own data export. Instagram provides information controls through Meta Accounts Center; Meta described that move in its official update. This is intended for your own account. It is not a way to download a stranger's private followers.

Download your own list through Instagram

In the Instagram app, open your profile menu and Accounts Center. Find Your information and permissions, then the current Export or Download your information option. Choose your Instagram profile, select the connection/follower categories if available, decide the date range and format offered, and submit the request. On desktop, use Instagram settings to reach the same controls. Labels can differ by account or app release.

Download and open the archive

When Instagram marks the export ready, retrieve it through the official prompt. Save the ZIP file to a private location before extracting it. Avoid forwarding it or uploading it to an unknown “follower list downloader”; the archive may contain messages, photos, and other account records in addition to followers.

After extraction, look for a folder or file related to followers, following, or connections. Some archives split lists across multiple files. The format may be JSON or HTML. Open HTML for a readable page; for JSON, use a local editor or trusted import tool. Preserve the original ZIP so you can re-check records later.

Use the data without over-interpreting it

An export is a point-in-time account record. It can become outdated as people follow or unfollow. Do not assume its order is chronological or treat a download date as a follow timestamp. If a date field is present, read its context before interpreting it.

If you sort or compare entries, create a separate working copy and include the export request date. Keep only necessary columns, restrict spreadsheet access, and delete the file when it is no longer useful. Do not use the list for unwanted bulk messages or publish it without a lawful reason.

Convert the archive if needed

For a spreadsheet workflow, follow our CSV and Excel conversion guide. For all categories—not just connections—read how to export Instagram followers, following, and account data. For extension safety, review Chrome's permission explanation.

Bottom line

Download your own account archive from Instagram’s settings. It is a dated copy, not a live or guaranteed complete list for other accounts.

Frequently asked questions

Is there a download button on every Instagram profile?

No. The official archive controls apply to the account you select in Accounts Center.

Does the archive show followers added after I requested it?

No. It is a prepared export, not a continuously updating list.

What if I cannot find the follower file?

Search the extracted archive for “follower” or “connection,” check subfolders, and confirm the selected profile and data categories.

How long does the Instagram archive take?

The wait can vary. Follow the status and availability instructions shown in Instagram, and only download the archive through the official account interface.

Can I download a list from any profile?

No. Your own archive covers your account information. Other profiles’ visibility depends on their settings and what Instagram shows you.
