If you want to export Instagram followers to CSV, know that the official data export is a copy of your own account information, not a public bulk-export button for any profile. Instagram's information controls are in Accounts Center. Meta announced that Download Your Information and Access Your Information were centralized there in this official update. Menu names can change, so follow the current in-app labels.
Start with Instagram's own account export
Request the archive for the correct Instagram profile and choose the connection or follower information offered. When the file is ready, download it from Instagram and keep it private. The archive can contain more than usernames, so do not upload it casually to an online converter or shared drive.
Convert only the file you received
Instagram may offer formats such as HTML or JSON, depending on the options shown. HTML is easier to browse. JSON preserves structured fields and can be transformed into a table, but filenames and nesting can vary. Unzip the archive locally, find the follower/following files, and inspect a few records before importing everything into Excel.
For CSV, make a small copy of the fields you need—such as username and any date field actually included. Use a trusted local spreadsheet app, choose UTF-8 if offered, and check that commas, quotation marks, and non-English names display correctly. If Excel places everything in one column, use its text-import or From Text/CSV flow and select the file's delimiter. Do not label a collection date as a follow date.
Know what a spreadsheet cannot prove
An export is a snapshot of information included in your archive. It is not a live follower tracker and does not reveal another person's private data. A row's presence is not consent to contact that person, and a username may change. Follow Instagram's terms and applicable privacy rules when handling personal information.
For a backup, store the original archive and a separate working spreadsheet in a protected location. Limit access, avoid public cloud folders, and delete extra copies when they are no longer useful. Chrome extensions can request broad access; read Google's permission guide before installing an exporter.

Bottom line
Request your own account data through Instagram, then organize the archive locally as CSV or Excel if needed. Keep the original private.
Frequently asked questions
