Keep the source project first

A simple creator archive
  1. Step 1Save the project
  2. Step 2Export a master
  3. Step 3Back up your files
  4. Step 4Check the archive

Before publishing a Short, save the final export, editing project, source clips, captions, and any music or asset notes. Store a backup separately from the device you used to edit. A platform copy may be compressed, and it will not restore your editable timeline or camera original.

For an upload already on your channel, use YouTube's own creator options. YouTube Help describes downloading your own videos from YouTube Studio or exporting account data with Google Takeout. Available options can change, so follow the current instructions in your account.

Checking a Shorts link

For a public Short you own or have permission to save, the YouTube Shorts page can show formats returned for that link. Paste the URL and review the choices. Some selections may require the server to combine separate audio and video streams; preparation time and output quality can vary. The format list is specific to the link, not a promise of every resolution.

This site does not bypass private, age-restricted, or otherwise limited content. If the Short plays only when signed in, the backend may not be able to access it. Do not share your Google password or one-time codes with a downloader.

Check playback and sound

After saving, play the file on the device or editing app where you plan to use it. Check the beginning and end, confirm the sound is present, and make sure the vertical framing and captions look right. Different encodings or audio tracks can make a retrieved copy look or sound different from the original project.

If the file is incomplete or does not play, check whether the browser transfer finished and try a compatible player before converting it. For common link or download failures, see the troubleshooting guide. Repeated retries cannot fix a private or unavailable source.

Frequently asked questions

What is best for a Short I uploaded?

Keep your original project and use YouTube Studio or Google Takeout for another copy of your own upload.

Why might the downloaded version look different?

Uploads can be processed into new encodings. Captions, licensed music, or other post details may also be separate from the video file.

Can I save another creator's Short?

Only when you have permission and the use follows applicable law and platform terms. Technical access does not provide reuse rights.

How do I copy a YouTube Shorts link?

Open the Short, select Share, then choose Copy link. Paste the direct URL into the checker if you are authorized to save it.

Can I download a private or age-restricted Short here?

No. Private, age-restricted, removed, and otherwise inaccessible videos may not be available to this service.

Quick rule: keep a source master before publishing, use official creator tools first, and treat a link-based download as a best-effort copy.
